WELCOME TO THE REPUBLIK

THE ORDINARY
IS OVERRATED.

Grey Door Republik is an independent game development studio based in the United Kingdom, creating unusual interactive experiences, unconventional stories and games that explore the space between the familiar and the unsettling.

We make games that reward curiosity, encourage exploration and occasionally leave players wondering whether they've discovered something they weren't meant to find.

Our inspiration comes from Britain's industrial and institutional past: ageing machinery, analogue equipment, forgotten workplaces, bureaucratic absurdity and the imperfect character of software from another era.

“The most interesting discoveries often begin with something perfectly normal.”

FLOPPY//144

ONE DISK. ONE DEPARTMENT. TOO MANY SECRETS.

Enter the Government Department of Records, where procedures, forgotten information and quietly unsettling discoveries hide in plain sight.

A retro exploration mystery with an ambitious technical constraint: an entire game designed to fit within the capacity of a standard 1.44 MB floppy disk.

BEYOND THE GREY DOOR

OTHER STRANGE
PLACES.

Seven more worlds in concept development. Different places, different jobs, and the distinct possibility that something isn't quite right.

Night Bus № 0

The last bus to Brackenmere. Familiar passengers, unfamiliar streets, and a timetable that doesn't account for yesterday.

Operator working an analogue telephone switchboard GDR / 03
NARRATIVE MYSTERY · CONCEPT

The Telephone Exchange

Connect calls, maintain the switchboard and discover why some lines reach places they shouldn't.

Lost property office on a British railway platform GDR / 04
INVESTIGATION · CONCEPT

Lost Property

Every misplaced object has a story. Some appear to have arrived before they were lost.

Surveyor studying plans outside a brutalist office building GDR / 05
ARCHITECTURAL MYSTERY · CONCEPT

Floor Plan 8

The approved drawings show seven floors. Your measurements, and the lift, disagree.

Overgrown abandoned stone house through a camera viewfinder GDR / 06
EXPLORATION · CONCEPT

Concrete & Moss

Document forgotten architecture and the traces of lives left behind, one photograph at a time.

An analogue British transport control room with bus and rail route maps GDR / 07
TRANSPORT OPERATIONS SIMULATION · CONCEPT

Service as Usual

Keep a local British transport network moving in the late 1980s. Coordinate buses and trains, manage delays and disruptions, and keep services running from an analogue transport control room.

ARCHIVE NOTE: These are early-stage concepts, not announced releases. Contents subject to alteration, relocation or administrative oversight.

THE DESIGN MANIFESTO

SMALLER WORLDS.
DEEPER QUESTIONS.

We don't pursue spectacle for its own sake. We build systems worth understanding, places worth exploring and details worth noticing.

01 /

ORIGINALITY

Unusual concepts and unconventional mechanics beyond the familiar formula.

ATMOSPHERE

Believable environments where subtle inconsistencies matter more than spectacle.

05 /

BRITISH CHARACTER

Understated humour, bureaucratic absurdity and ordinary working life, slightly rearranged.

A NOTE FROM THE STUDIO

“THE OBJECTIVE IS NOT TO MAKE THE BIGGEST GAMES. IT IS TO MAKE GAMES THAT REMAIN INTERESTING LONG AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN SWITCHED OFF.”
